The 2018 Deacon & Staff Retreat

A word from our Pastor:

I look forward to this retreat with great anticipation. My excitement stems from 1) a deep desire to see God ignite a flame among your ranks! 2) my love and admiration for Dr. Ryan Whitley.

I pray often that God would send revival to our deacons and staff. That we would experience His manifest presence in our lives and would spread His love and grace like contagion.

That prayer continues throughout this weekend! I know that your acts of service as a Deacon represent a lot of time and love…THANK YOU! I also know that all the kind acts in the world mean nothing if we are not living in step with the Holy Spirit of God.

I also am excited about the weekend because of our facilitator, Dr. Ryan Whitley. Ryan is a friend, a mentor, and one of the best communicators of biblical truth I have ever know… You are in for a real treat!

For more than 25 years, Dr. Ryan Whitley has pastored churches across the South. Ryan is the Senior and Founding Pastor of CrossPoint Church in Trussville, Alabama. Crosspoint is a church born out of a desire to reach just one more to become a fully devoted follower of Christ.

Crosspoint was first introduced to the First Baptist Church of Center Point as an idea on October 25, 1998, when Ryan shared with the church a message, “A Vision for a New Millennium.”

Soon after, FBC started a second campus and Crosspoint Church emerged. Ryan is a dynamic leader and has guided the church to exponential growth.

Ryan is an effective communicator of Biblical truths and a remarkably gifted disciple-making pastor. He is no stranger to H.S.B.C. as he served in Hattiesburg in the 1980s as Temple’s Youth Pastor and later as the Pastor of South 28th Avenue Baptist Church.

Ryan’s discipleship emphasis on meaningful membership in the local church developed into a powerful resource entitled, “Renew”, that has been greatly used to strengthen churches and facilitate church health.

He comes to our Deacon/Staff Retreat with a wealth of knowledge, insight, and wisdom from the Lord. He will be an incredible blessing to our church through this retreat.

Ryan has degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Beeson Divinity School. He and his wife, Vonda, live in the Birmingham area and have two adult children, Kelsey and Taylor.
