As one of Mississippi's largest and fastest-growing cities, Hattiesburg is home to a generous variety of cultural opportunities, special events and activities, great food, music, and more!
Hattiesburg is home to The University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University, . The Historic Downtown District, featuring many architectural gems, such as the historic Saenger Theater and the Hattiesburg Historic Train Depot add to the artistic and cultural flair of the city! Unique shops, galleries and plenty of opportunities for exquisite local dining also abound in Historic Downtown.
Also unique to Hattiesburg, the Longleaf Trace, Mississippi's only certified Rails to Trails Conservancy project, is a multi-use recreational trail spanning 42 miles from Hattiesburg to Prentiss, MS. Finally, a truly patriotic experience awaits you at our two military museums. The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum, located on the base of Camp Shelby just south of Hattiesburg, features more than 6,000 artifacts spanning America's military history. The museum displays interactive and life-sized dioramas such as the "live" WWI battle trench and a full-scale Vietnam medical mission. The African American Military History Museum is housed in one of the last remaining USO buildings created specifically for the African American military population. A walk through this relic immerses visitors in a hands-on experience of valor and bravery exhibited by this pioneering group of soldiers.
