“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29, NASB)

Hi, this is Eleanor Witcher of IMB’s prayer office, asking you to pray for refugees

In normal times, by October the classrooms of Yemen are full of children, eager to learn. They copy their Arabic letters in notebooks and recite their sums. In times of war, schools that have not been gutted by bombs are crowded with refugees and displaced people.

It has been estimated that by the end of the year, 1 million Afghans will leave their country. Many have declared that the present government is so crippled that it cannot function. Here’s a quote from an article on BBC News online: “Sahar goes to classes six days a week, days which have lately been marred by shootings and suicide bombings. But she said that dealing with this has become part of her routine now. ‘We got used to it, there’s always a suicide attack or a blast here. Whenever I go out, I don’t know whether I’ll make it back home alive. But I am continuing my studies and whatever happens--happens,’ she says.”The media images of people crammed into overflowing trains or risking their lives on boats to cross the Mediterranean Sea portray how desperate people are to find hope for themselves and their families. As you pray for these people, many of whom need to know Jesus Christ, lift up those who are working with them once they arrive.

* Please pray this hopelessness and instability will cause desperate people to cry out to God for help and hope.

* Intercede for the generation of students, who are not getting the education they need that they will hear they are loved by God and that He cares for their every need.

* Pray for messengers who will deliver the Good News of Jesus, whether it be through national believers, foreigners, radio programs, the Internet, Bibles or visions.
