Today's Message: Watch and Pray
Text: Matthew 26:41
Dr. Scott Hanberry

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” Matthew 26:41

Jesus words raise questions…Where do I need to “watch?” How should I “pray?” What does that look like? Everybody is tempted. There is no way you can get into a place in the Christian life where you are no longer tempted, but you can be ready to face them.

(1) ________________ your primary battles.
“Each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed…” James 1:14

(2) _______ _________ to help you see what you are up against…
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24

(3) Recognize your most vulnerable __________.

When you’re tired
When a friend has failed
When people are hostile to Jesus

(4) _______________ on your reactions.
Listen to how describes this…

“We need to be intimately acquainted with the ways, wiles, methods, advantages, and occasions which give sin (lust) its success. This is how men deal with their enemies. They search out their plans, ponder their goals, and consider how, and by what means they have prevailed over them in the past.  Then they can be defeated.” ~ John Owen

Praying

Pray because your flesh is weak
Pray because your Savior is strong
