We live in a deceptive world. The ease of presenting a false image of ourselves to others is perhaps the highestit has ever been in the social media-saturated culture that we live in. We need to hear Jesus' call to be people of truth now more than ever. James's rejection of oath is about being the kind of people who say what they mean and mean what they say.

But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned. James 5:12
